Alphabet, numbers & shapes

ALPHABET:
DISCUSS & LEARN:
*Learn the alphabet in sign language, Spanish, French, German, etc.


ACTIVITIES:
*Make name large tags. Have children trace their name, copy their name & then write their name without the name tag (this will take a few weeks/months).

*Draw block shape letters. Have children cut out the letters.

*Cut out pictures in magazines of things that start with the letter you are working on.

*House hunt: find things around the house that start with the letter you are working on.

*Dictionary chase: say a word. Everyone races to find it in the dictionary first person/team wins.

*Learn new words. Use the dictionary to help.

*Alphabet dot-to-dot. Make letters with dots, let the children connect the dot to reveal their letter.

RECIPES:
*Eat Alphabet soup

*Alphabet cookie: make your favorite cookie dough. Shape it into shapes and bake.

*Alphabet pancakes: make your favorite pancake recipe and pour it in alphabet letters onto your griddle.

*Alphabet breadsticks: make your favorite breadstick recipe and shape the dough into letters.


NUMBERS:
DISCUSS & LEARN:
*Learn telephone and home address.

*Learn to tell time.

*Learn how to say numbers in sign language, Spanish, French, German, etc.

*Learn Roman Numerals

*Learn how much currency is worth. Penny = 1 cent, Nickel = 5 cents, Dime = 10 cents, Quarter = 25 cents, etc. Learn what other countries currency is.


ACTIVITIES:
*Play dominoes

*Make your own domino cards with card stock. Put shapes, numbers (dots or numerals), animals, etc on the dominoes.

*Count items around the house or outside. How many flowers? How many pillows? How many gum balls in the jar? How many Cheerios?


MAKE:
*Piggy bank: buy a ceramic piggy bank or use a box. Decorate the bank with markers, paint, foam pieces, stickers, etc. Start saving your money for college, mission, vacation, bike, etc.

*Number book: fold paper in half and staple folded edge. Each page you can write the number but the correct about of stickers representing the number. If you want add the Roman Numeral, tally marks, phonetic spelling of the numbers.

*Make a timeline of your life.
