Sheep & goats

SHEEP:
DISCUSS & LEARN:
*Difference in a lamb, ewe, and ram.
*Who do we get wool?

ACTIVITIES:
*Shave sheep: print out a coloring picture of a sheep and laminate it. Put shaving cream on the sheep (like wool). Using a popsicle stick shave the laminated sheep.

*Go to a petting zoo.

*Cotton ball sheep: print out coloring pages of sheep and glue on cotton balls for their wool. OR you can make a 3-D sheep using cotton balls for the body, googly eyes, and pipe cleaner for the legs.

*Popcorn sheep: same directions as cotton ball sheep but with popcorn instead of cotton balls.

*Sheep mask using paper plate, cotton balls glue, string, etc.

BOOKS:
Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw
Russell the Sheep by Rob Scotton

SONGS:
LITTLE BOY BLUE (nursery rhyme)
Little boy blue
Come blow your horn!
The sheep's in the meadow,
The cow's in the corn.
Where is the boy
Who looks after the sheep?
He's under they haystack fast asleep.
Will you wake him?
No, not I.
For if I do,
He's sure to cry.

BA BA BLACK SHEEP
Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane.

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

One to mend the jerseys
one to mend the socks
and one to mend the holes in
the little girls' frocks.

Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.

MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB
Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go

It followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
It followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules.

It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school

And so the teacher turned it out,
Turned it out, turned it out,
And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near

And waited patiently about,
Patiently about, patiently about,
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear

"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cry

"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
Loves the lamb, you know, loves the lamb, you know
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
The teacher did reply

LITTLE BO-PEEP
Little Bo-Peep
Little Bo-peep has lost her sheep,
And doesn't know where to find them.
Leave them alone, and they'll come home,
Bringing their tails behind them.

Little Bo-peep fell fast asleep,
And dreamed she heard them bleating,
But when she awoke, she found it a joke,
For they were still a-fleeting.

Then up she took her little crook,
Determined for to find them;
She found them indeed, but it made her heart bleed,
For they'd left their tails behind them.

It happened on day, as Bo-peep did stray
Into a meadow hard by;
There she espied their tails side by side,
All hung to a tree to dry.

She heaved a sigh and wiped her eye,
And over the hillocks went rambling;
And tried what she could, as a shepherdess should,
To tack again each to its lamb kin.

RECIPES:
*Eat lamb chops for dinner.
